    On Stand-By

    June 1, 2014

Wait for The Promise – The Holy Ghost is on Stand-By Waiting for you.

Parakletos (Intercessor, Consoler: advocate, comforter) – Parakletos is the one summoned, called to one’s side, [esp.] called to one’s aid and is used of (1) Christ in His exaltation at God’s right hand, pleading with God the Father for the pardon of our sins (I John 2:1); and (2) the Holy Spirit destined to take the place of Christ with the Apostles (after Christ’s ascension to the Father), to lead them to a deeper knowledge of the Gospel truth, and give them divine strength needed to enable them to undergo trials and persecutions on behalf of the divine Kingdom (John 14:16, 26; 15:26; 16:7) Strong’s/Vine’s Dictionary.

The Amplified version of the Bible uses the term Stand-By as another word for Comforter or the Holy Spirit. It defines the word Comforter as: Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Stand-by. A Stand-by is defined as follows:

    Stand·by

Something that can be relied on when needed; One that can always be relied on, as in an emergency; A favorite or frequent choice; One kept in readiness to serve as a substitute; A staunch supporter or adherent; One who can be relied upon; A traveler who is waiting for last minute accommodations to become available one a plane, train, or other transport as a result of cancellation.

Waiting in an airport while on stand-by can be a sure test of faith and patience. On the one hand you are assured of a flight to your destination but on the other hand you must wait and count on someone cancelling or not showing up for their intended reserved flight. If they don’t show up, you get to take their place.

Jesus said in order to follow Him we would have to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him (see Matthew 16:24). Basically that means die to ourselves or give up our lives and live for Him; that is, in my opinion, where the Holy Ghost comes in as “Stand-By”. Our lives are that plane, train, or other mode of transport that He waits to occupy for the glory of Jesus. He is the trusted, reliable third person of the Trinity who waits to take over in our life in order to complete the mission we were assigned by Jesus. The wait on our part is over because the Holy Ghost – Helper, Comforter, Stand-By – has come. We only need to receive. He now awaits for that next cancellation of a crucified life so that he can come on board – in power.
