    The Untoward Generation

    May 31, 2015

And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.” Acts 2:40

Save yourselvesfrom this untoward generation. That was the plea of Peter on the day Pentecost had fully come. The mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit had come upon the disciples and Peter’s first sermon ended with three thousand souls being saved. The Bible says, “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls (Acts 2:41).”

The exhortation to save ourselves is a call to come out from amongst the untoward. Untoward: Skolios – Crooked, curved, perverse, wicked, unfair, surly, froward, warped, winding. The Greek word skolios is where we get the word scoliosis – an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine, usually having no known cause and occurring most commonly in preteen and adolescent girls. The Gospel of Jesus as a lifeline to rescue a generation from the perversion of the day. Instead of conforming to the culture, we need to be transforming to the Kingdom – we need to be rescued.

As we witness the moral decline of our culture and nation, these words couldn’t be timelier for our generation. Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun. What has been will be again. It is often said, if we do not learn from history, history will repeat itself. We’re calling good evil and evil good. Anyone who stands for righteousness makes himself a prey. But where sin abounds, GRACE MUCH MORE ABOUNDS!!!  “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom 6:23).”

As sure as darkness has covered the earth again, LIGHT can shine on it again as well. In what may seemingly appear to be hopeless, can actually be turned around for good. The same Holy Ghost that lit the Church on fire on Pentecost is here to reignite the Church once again. The people who now sit in darkness can see a GREAT LIGHT once again.

It’s in times like these that our focus must be on prayer, fasting, and revival. Revive our land Lord, revive our land! The Holy Spirit warned by Paul that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith; men will be lovers of sensual pleasures more than lovers of God…. Nevertheless he also charged to “PREACH THE WORD!” The role of the Church is to be the salt and light of this world – not the entertainment. We are not to be silent but fearlessly, boldly, and courageously preach the message of Jesus as we are empowered by the Holy Ghost! Jesus is with us and He will confirm the Word with signs following. So much is happening and changing right before our very eyes and it is not good. But we know Who is Good and never changes – Our God!

Jesus Christ, the same Yesterday, and today, and forever! (Heb 13:8)
